CFE-BAH. Rev. Horace MALTBY, b. Dec. 25,1807 (Jos. 5, Jos. 4, Jos. 3, Dan. 2, Wm. 1). m. May 6, 1831, Lovina BILLINGS. "She was descended from Peter Morse and his wife Kezia. They had a dau. Rachel Morse, b. Nov. 27, 1770; d. Dec. 24, 1839, who mar. Matthew Billings. Their son, John Billings, mar. Katy Grovesbeck, and their dau. Lovina mar. Horace Maltby."

Rev. Horace Maltby resided at Roulette, Potter Co., Pa. He d. April 29, 1882, and his wife died June 3, 1881. She was b. Aug. 14, 1803, at, or near, North Adams, Mass. Rev. Horace Maltby was a regular ordained minister of the Free Will Baptist Church. He was a church builder and for twenty years was in service constantly and almost without pay in Roulette. By occupation he was a mechanic and mill builder.

"Physically a large man, morally he was a tower of strength among his fellows. Through changes in church conditions he and my mother, later joined, or rejoined, the original church of their faith, to which nearly all the family belong. x x He was born at, or near, North Adams, Mass., and I was carried across the Hudson River on the ice, when a small boy, in a sleigh(?) with black horses driven by a negro. By laying on the whip, the horses cleared an open space in the ice and landed the family safely on the West bank of the Hudson.

The season was in the early spring, the ice was rotten. These facts I have direct from my father and related them, as they make the imigration of this branch of the family to Watertown, N.Y.

Other Maltbys must have followed or preceeded them. I know I have heard my father talk about his uncle Chandler Maltby, a farmer, near Watertown, N.Y. Horace and Lovina his wife, son Franklin C., and daughter Betsey A. Greene, lie buried in Roulette, Pa. George in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Seattle, Wash., Amanda Roe near Condor, N.Y. Dyantha will soon be laid to rest, I suppose, by side of 2nd husband, Cream(?) Mich. Joseph lies between Rochester and Oswego, by the side of his two grandmothers."
